Frequently asked questions about December breaks

What’s the weather like in the UK in December?

December in the UK is generally cold, often damp, with shorter daylight hours. Expect daytime temperatures to range approximately 2-8 °C, depending on region. Nights can drop near or just below freezing, especially inland or in higher areas.

Rain is common; some snow or frost is possible, particularly in northern and mountainous zones. Coastal areas tend to be milder but can be windy.

Days are short - it gets dark earlier, so outdoor activities are best earlier in the day. Layers, warm outerwear, waterproofs, sturdy shoes are all essential.

Which Warner Hotel is best to visit in December?

Cosy, elegant surroundings - Reserve properties like Thoresby Hall, Heythrop Park and The Runnymede on Thames are more premium and tend to offer more refined décor, dining, and elevated amenities.

Festive, rustic charm - Country-houses, castles and manor houses like Bodelwyddan Castle, Studley Castle, Nidd Hall, Cricket St Thomas. They often have beautiful grounds for walks, charming interiors, and a cozy feel that suits cold winter days.

That said, all of our hotels and villages make for a great stay in December.
